The Medicine Hat Oilmen’s Association has been a recognized organization since the early 70’s and strives on today’s oil and gas economy. All members of the society are currently in a career with 80% or more oilfield related occupations. Even with today’s roller coaster of an economy you can still see the Oilmen’s Association donating time and monies to small charities and other organizations like the Chamber of Commerce Medicine Hat Little League Baseball, The Phoenix Safe House, Gas City Ball Hockey, Pheasant Forever, Old Timers Baseball, Minor Hockey, Medicine Hat Curling Club, Cancer Society and the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta. Every year the Oilmen’s Association in conjunction with the Medicine Hat College reward a college scholarship to any active member’s immediate family student attending either Business Administration, Commerce, Geography, Engineering, Computer Systems Technology, or Power Engineering.
The Medicine Hat Oilmen’s Association is a non-profit organization that hosts a diverse group of 400 plus oilmen, who work in various aspects of the energy industry in Southern Alberta and Southwest Saskatchewan. The Society was formed as a venue back in 1973 where area oilmen could get together to promote our industry and build relationships with other oilmen through annual events. Over the years our annual events have increased to events such as Men’s Golf Tournaments, Mixed Bonspiels, Mixed Golf Tournaments, Trapshoot Challenge, Curling Bonspiels, Lobster Feed’s, Hockey Tournaments and Seafood Nite’s. In which all events are locally sponsored and co-ordinated by the association, board of directors, and event committees. With prizes at every event, there has been some healthy competition created throughout the years amongst fellow members and neighbouring Oilmen’s Associations. As well over the years, the city of Medicine Hat businesses have flourished with the amount of revenue brought in from out of town participants in all our events.
Our meetings are held every first Thursday of the month except June, July and August allowing the members to enjoy their well deserved summer holidays without interruptions. Once at our monthly meetings, the local venue will supply supper and beverages while new and old business of the oil patch are discussed followed by either presentations or entertainment put on by surrounding business’s and industry related organizations. To make sure that all events and meetings run smoothly the Oilmen’s Association is directed by an elite board of individuals, voted yearly by general membership in December, who dedicate their time by setting up and managing all functions.
Over the past few years our membership has seen a small decrease in numbers due to the downturn in the energy industry, however with combined forces of the board, electronic monthly newsletters, continuously sponsorship support from local oil and gas vendors we can still provide quality events for all attending. For as long as we have support from past, present and new members, and the commitment from generous businesses, the organization will continue to grow and reach new goals.
Come join our Oilmen’s and see firsthand what we have been about over the last 40 years!!!!
